Do you need a health coach in 2026?

So, I am a health coach. What does that even mean, and do you need my help?

It is 2026, and Instagram hosts an endless stream of exercise videos presented by extremely athletic people. YouTube has in-depth, professional, free tutorials on just about any health-related topic. ChatGPT can generate a workout plan for you if you know how to prompt it.

In this reality, do you need a health coach? The answer, as with anything, is: it depends.

When in the gym, do you spend more time checking your social feeds than doing your reps?

When not in the gym, do you spend the bulk of your time watching and reacting to online content or playing video games?

When searching for health-related information, do you get informed by websites and AI rather than going directly to the masters — living people who are an embodiment of what they teach? Practitioners who can literally transfer knowledge from their nervous system to yours?

If you answered "yes" to the above questions, you should probably work with a health coach.

Lack of embodiment creates a health deficit

The world we're inhabiting right now, especially in the West, is displaying multiple symptoms of a disease. That disease is the separation of the body from the mind, and here are some of the pervasive attitudes through which it is manifesting itself:

  • Physical contact is risky
  • The Sun is dangerous
  • Nature wants to kill you by exposing you to germs
  • AI is alive and is thinking for you
  • Humans are destined to evolve towards "The Internet of Bodies".

It helps to realize that the people broadcasting these ideas are themselves an embodiment of the abovementioned disease. They are the kids who didn't spend their childhood playing outdoors, sitting instead in front of game consoles and computers all day. They experienced agency and mastery by manipulating external objects in controlled environments — as opposed to developing mind-body integration by mastering physical skills in the natural habitat.

(This is why a quality physical education program is among the most important things a society can invest in. How does your country do on that front?)

When these kids grow up, they often become tech gurus because the technology career track offers an obvious progression to playing with gadgets in a man-made, artificial environment.

Their worldview leaks through every time they offer opinions on the future of mankind. A fear-based outlook on life, rooted in a very low confidence in Nature and infused with deep self-loathing.

Many become so conditioned by tinkering with man-made systems that they fail to extend this systemic thinking to the world outside. They completely fail to recognize Nature as a system — a multi-dimensional, organically evolved, and highly interconnected system that will always be more advanced than the systems they are seeking to build.

Many are uncomfortable being in their bodies, and yearn to change some aspect of their physiology: their sex organs, their brains, or their genetic profile.

Some chase perfect health so that they never have to die.

I believe this disconnection from the body to be the spirit behind Technocracy. I've written about Technocracy here, but here's an alternative definition for the context of this article:

Technocracy is a state in which one's lack of embodiment becomes externalized, end is manifested as a desire to control one's entire environment.

If these people instead learned to use their native hardware and software to full extent — it would have been an ongoing, immersive, and ecstatic quest for them.

On the Internet of bodies

The real Internet of bodies already exists — it's the web of mirror neurons residing within every body. They activate when you perform an action, and when you observe someone else perform that same action.

This is the mechanism by which information flows between people without words — through body language, tone of voice, etc. It's the basis of learning in children, empathy in adults, and functional social interactions in any context.

When the mirror neurons (sensory-motor cells in the brain) are activated, the information flows to the limbic system, then down the vagus nerve, then into the gut, then back up into the prefrontal cortex. The circuit thus connects "gut feel" to higher cognition.

When you appreciate the elegance of this system you realize that the concept of the atomized individual is an illusion — it is a physiological impossibility.

The mirror neurons are part of what Frank Forencich calls the "Long Body", based on an ancestral worldview held by many societies. It's the idea that your organs and your nervous system are as much outside of you as they are inside.

Health coach as embodiment shaman

Technology hasn't made the health coach obsolete. Instead, it has helped reduce our role to its essential ingredient: helping you develop a relationship with your body. The health coach of 2026 is an embodiment facilitator.

Life is a series of initiations (quote: Chris Bale). The modern health coach is a holistic shaman that catalyzes change in you via the radiant power of their presence — their personal example.

When you radiate stability, coherence, and well-being, you tune your environment to that signal — through the invisible network every body is plugged in to.

That's the frequency your health coach can activate in you. Technology is secondary to this process.
